AARP Driver Safety Course

September 9, 1 – 5pm

Facilitator: Rob Carter, AARP
Cost: $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-AARP members

Driving has changed since you first got your license. This AARP Driver Safety Course could help keep you safe and save you money! Learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. Farmers’ Market

September 15, 9:30am – 12:30pm

Stock up on apples and honey for Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year), and browse a variety of produce and other handcrafted goods from local farms at the many other booths! Dozens of vendors will be on hand selling everything from challah and honey cake to coffee and hummus.

Redefine Retirement: Get Covered! Understanding and Enrolling in Medicare

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls

October 28, November 4, 11, 18 & 25, December 2, 9 & 16
Mondays, 1 – 3pm
Cost: $18

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities accordingly. But you don’t have to restrict your life as well! A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to teach you how to manage falls and increase your level of activity. Two-hour classes will be held once a week for eight weeks.


Introduction to Face Reading (Physiognomy)

November 20, 6 – 8pm
Cost: $25

Join our very own Tai Chi instructor, Ralph Dehner, for a fun, informative lesson on reading facial features to understand yourself and others. Physiognomy has been practiced for thousands of years. GrandFriends is your opportunity to volunteer in our community! Seniors are paired with a Mayerson JCC Early Childhood School classroom, and will visit the class weekly to read books, tell stories, and play with the children. Re-connect with your childhood while giving back to our youngest community members. Share your wisdom and see the world through the perspectives of your new young friends.

Requirements for volunteering:

  • Commit to making at least two hour- long visits each month for one school year (September – May)
  • Complete one hour of JCC volunteer training
  • Physical
  • Proof of immunization
  • Background check/Fingerprinting

Smartphone I-Help Club: Managing Your Smartphone

Mondays, 3 – 4pm
