Summer Camp FAQs
Do I have to be a J Member to send my child to Camp at the J?
Camp at the J is open to any child. J Members will receive a reduced rate.
Does my child have to be Jewish to attend Camp at the J?
Camp at the J strives to include all campers. We do not deny admission to our camp, or to the benefits of our program services because of race, color, national origin, gender identity, ability, or age.
How do I register my child for Camp?
Is financial aid available?
Financial aid may be available. Please contact our Membership Director, at: 513.761.7500 ext. 1206.
What should my camper pack each day?
Campers should pack a water bottle, snacks, bag lunch (unless a lunch has been purchased for them), swimsuit, towel, hat, and sunscreen each day. Please label all camper belongings with full name to ensure items return with them each day. Please note, parents must indicate on their “Request for Administration of Medication” form that they would like the Camp at the J staff to reapply sunscreen to their child.
How does lunch work at Camp at the J?
Parents have the option of packing a lunch each day or purchasing camp lunches in advance for their child. Packed lunches will be stored inside an air-conditioned room, but will not be refrigerated. All lunches at Camp at the J are personal and are not to be shared. Personal lunches do not have to be Kosher, but are asked to be nut free.
Camp lunches are delicious and nutritious meals for your children so you can skip packing lunches each day for camp. Camp lunches are all Kosher and peanut free, and will be purchased for the entirety of your child’s session. Vegetarian options are available as well.
What should my camper wear to camp?
Campers should wear comfortable shorts and t-shirts that are okay to get dirty. For your child’s safety, socks and sneakers (closed toe and heel) are required. Sandals, Crocs, and flip-flops may be packed for swimming or water activities. Pioneers and Trailblazers campers are encouraged to wear their swimsuit under their clothing to camp as they will swim daily before lunch.
Is there an extra charge for camp t-shirts?
All campers will receive one camp T-shirt for FREE.
Might my child’s photo be used in publicity?
Your child’s name, photograph, or video clip may be used by the J in news articles and publications, unless we receive a written objection prior to the first day of camp. If you would to request your child not be used in future publicity, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Does Camp at the J offer extended day programs?
YES, if your child would like to add a little extra fun to their day, we offer Before Crew and After Crew programs to keep them happy and busy before and after camp. Before Crew lets you drop your children off as early as 7am and After Crew lets you pick up your children as late at 6pm. They’ll have extra time with their friends to play games, swim in our pools, and more. Both programs mirror the camp sessions and dates.
What if my child gets hurt at camp?
All Camp at the J Staff are Certified First Aid Providers. In the event of a minor accident or injury, first aid will be administered on site. Should the accident or injury require more than basic first aid, 911 will be called and your child will be treated by a professional EMS or transported to the hospital. In this event, a parent or guardian will be contacted immediately.
What are the JCC's guidelines regarding pool safety?
All campers will be swim tested by certified lifeguards and those who are strong swimmers will be given bracelets that allow them access to the deep end of the pool. Children without these bracelets will not have access to that area of the pool.
The J has a ratio of lifeguards to patrons 1:25. We hire only experienced/certified lifeguards and provide mandatory periodic testing and in-service training sessions. J lifeguards will always wear hip packs containing basic emergency equipment.
Children under the age of six will be required to be within arm’s length of a guardian over the age of 16. Children under the age of six who are involved in “free play,” or not in a supervised swim class, will be encouraged to wear a flotation device. Only flotation devices provided by the J will be used in our pools.
For more details about our pool safety, please see our Pool Rules.
